Monsoon Magic: The Deep Impact and Beauty of the Rainy Season in Bengal

Notes: Time of arrival-scenery of nature-rivers and tanks full-fields green. Usefulness: agriculture depends on it-growth of grass for cattle. Inconveniences: muddy roads-floods-diseases like malaria, cholera. Conclusion: a boon in spite of inconveniences.

The rainy season is the second season of the year. It comprises the months of Asharh and Sravan. It comes just after the scorching heat of summer. Dark clouds cover the sky and it rains heavily. The dry earth becomes green. Rivers, tanks and canals are filled to the brim.

The rainy season is of immense usefulness to us. Ours is an agricultural country and agriculture depends mostly on the rainy season. Paddy, jute and other crops cannot grow without rain. The season also helps the growth of green grass for cattle. The rainy season has its inconveniences too. Roads in villages become muddy and communication becomes difficult. Poor people cannot go out to work and suffer much. Heavy rains often cause floods. Houses are washed away, cattle drowned and crops destroyed. Diseases like malaria and cholera break out in an epidemic form. In spite of all these inconveniences, the rainy season is a boon to us. It saves us from famine and starvation.
