Autumn is the third season of the year. It comprises the months of Bhadra and Aswin. It comes after the muddy and gloomy rainy season. The scenery of nature becomes beautiful. The sky becomes clear of dark clouds. White clouds like patches of cotton float in the blue sky. The sun shines brightly. The fields look beautiful with green paddy waving in the breeze. Flowers like shefali and kash bloom. Shefali fills the morning air with its sweet fragrance.

Autumn is a season of festivals. The Durga Puja, the greatest festival of the Hindus, is held in this season. People of all classes enjoy themselves. Schools and colleges remain closed for a long time. People wear new clothes and visit puja pandals. The Durga Puja is followed by the Lakshmi Puja and the Kali Puja. Autumn is indeed a season of joy and happiness to the people of Bengal.
