An Inside Look at a Vibrant Public and Cultural Function Celebration

Last year a culltural (public) function was held in the Rabindra Bhavan of our town on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Rabindranath. It was presided over by the Education Minister of West Bengal and the elite of the town attended it. The district sabhadhipati graced the function as the chief guest. As the president and the chief guest arrived they were garlanded and taken to the dias.
The function began with a Rabindra song sung in chorus. This was followed by the recitation of Tagore's poems. The recitation of Meghdut by a college teacher kept the audience spell-bound. Then the local musicians sang Tagore's songs. Some of these songs were great hits. The songs were followed by the talks on the different aspects of Rabindra literature and on his patriotism. After the speech there was staged Rabindranath's Mukut. The play appealed to the audience for its patriotic sentiment and historical interest. A famous local actor played the role of Rajdhar. The manner he acted the part of the villain (i.e. Rajdhar) was simply wonderful and was applauded by all.
Last of all, the president delivered his speech. He made a special mention of Rabindranath's love for the common people and stressed on the necessity of pursuing the ideals of Rabindranath in the problem-ridden modern life. The function ended with a Tagore's farewell song and the vote of thanks from the chair. The function was a grand success.
