A HOLIDAY EXCURSION
Notes: Occasion, companions & transport, lodging sights, objects visited impression.]
During the Christmas holidays last year I had an excursion to Calcutta. I was accompanied by my parents and sisters. We went there by train. We stayed at a hotel.
We first visited the Alipore Zoo. We walked round the Zoological Garden and saw many birds and animals. What attracted us most was the tigron, the cross breed of a lion and a tigress. We went near a pond and saw the migratory birds in thousands. From the Zoo we went to the Museum. It seemed to me that we had moved from the world of living beings to that of death- from the world of bustle to that of silence. Here we saw the headless statue of Kaniska, the statues of Buddha in various postures and many other relics of the past. Next we visited the Victoria Memorial. Here we saw the marble statue of Queen Victoria, many pictures relating to the British Empire and some important documents of the British rule in India. Our wonder knew no bounds when we looked at the pictures of báttles carved on black stones. On our way back from the Memorial we visited the oval-shaped Birla Planetorium and saw the cable-stayed Vidyasagar Setu, a wonder of all wonders.
Next morning we went to Dakshineswar. We saw the awe-inspiring idol of the goddess Kali and prayed to Her. We also saw the room where Sri Sri Ramkrishna lived and died. After three days we returned home with mind leaping with joy. (248 words)
