THE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

[Notes: Introduction-celebration of the day-hoisting of national flag, singing of national song-march past by the NCC.-Headmaster's speech-blood donation at noon-cultural programes in the evening-patriotic songs and speeches. ]

The 15th August is a red-letter day in Indian history. It is on this day in 1947 that we were freed from the shackles of two hundred years' British rule. Since then this day is celebrated as Independence day every year.

This day is observed with all solemnityand grandeur in our school. On this day we go to school early in the morning. We stand in rows in the campus. The headmaster hoists the national flag. Then we salute the flag and sing the national song, Janaganamana. Then the members of the N. C. C. march past with the drums beating. The headmaster gives a short speech. He recalls the heroic sacrifices of the freedom fighters and calls upon us to follow the ideals of Netaji, Gandhiji and others. Then sweets are distributed among the students. At noon we go to hospital to donate blood.

In the evening a function is held in the big hall of our school. The hall is tastefully decorated with flowers, leaves and sprays. The President of the school takes the chair. The Secretary of the school graces the function as the Chief Guest. Some students sing patriotic songs and some recite patriotic poems of Rabindranath, Nazrul Islam and Dwijendralal. After the recitation the President gives a short speech, and the Chief Guest thanks the headmaster, teachers and students for the nice conduct of the function. The function ends at 9 p.m.
