The School Library: A Hub of Knowledge and Learning

[Notes: Introduction. Description of the library room-types of books available-uses of the library: satisfies thirst for knowledge-benefits poor students who can borrow books..]

The library forms a vital part of a school. Now a days every school has a library of its own. The library is housed in a big hall which is well lighted and well-ventilated. Books are arranged in a classified manner and kept in glass-faced almirahs. There is on one side of all hall a space fitted with long tables and high-backed benches. It is called "Reading Room." Students and teachers go there at their leisure hours, consult the books they like or read the dailies, periodicals and magazines. In the reading room one can read even those books which cannot be borrowed for home-study.

The school library contains a large number of books on various subjects. All the library books except dictionaries and encyclopaedias and rare books are lent for home-study for a week or so. A man called the librarian is in charge of the library.

The school library is of immense use to students. It not only arouses their thirst for knowledge but also satisfies it. A student who wants to have his intellectual horizon widened must read books besides his texts. And he can read these books by borrowing them from the library. Moreover, the poor students who cannot buy their text-books can borrow them from it. The school library is a boon to students. It contributes much to the adequate mental development of young boys and girls who are future citizens and thereby does a great service to society.
