My Favourite Hobby: Why I Love [Hobby Name] and How to Start

A

hobby means the favourite subject or occupation which is not one's main business. It is pursued, for pleasure or recreation. My favourite hobby is painting. I have been pursuing it since my boyhood. My father has always encouraged me to go on with it and provided me with funds necessary for the purchase of painting materials. Now I have in my possession paints, brushes and boards.

Painting is a great source of pleasure to me. When I come back from school, I feel very tired. Then I take to painting and immediately the doors of the world of beauty and charm are opened. My tiredness is gone, my worries for class-work and examination vanish and for an hour or two I drink the pleasures of life to the lees. When after painting I come back to my study, I feel new energy and vigour in me. To master the art of painting I have read a number of books on painting, seen many famous portraits and met many famous painters of West Bengal.

I have already painted a good deal of pictures. During the last Christmas holidays an exhibition of the pictures done by me was held in our school. It drew the elite of the town; some of the pictures were highly praised by them. Painting has made me both happy and famous.
