[Notes: Name of the hero-his birth, education-service to the country-his message.]

etaji Subhas Chandra Bose is my favourite hero. He was born at Cuttack in Orissa on January 23,1897. He was a brillant student. He stood second in the Matriculation Examination and fourth in the I.C.S. Examination.

When he came back to India after passing the I.C.S. Examination he did not accept service under the British Government. In order to free India he joined the Freedom Movement. He led a successful movement for the demolition of the Black Hole Monument. The Government arrested him and kept him interned in his own house. One night he escaped from his house throwing dust into the vigilant eyes of the guards. He left India in disguise. He went to Singapore. There he raised an army with the Indian officers and soldiers taken prisioners by the Japanese. He named this army the I.N.A. Then the I.N.A. (Indian National Army) attacked India under his leadership. It marched triumphantly up to Imphal, but thereafter had to retreat for want of food and arms. With his heart writhing in pain Netaji came back to Singapore and left for Tokyo in a Japanese plane. On the way the plane crashed and he was killed. Some believe him to be still alive. Dead or not, Netaji yet lives-and he lives in his heroic deeds. The thundering call of Netaji "Give me your blood and I will give you freedom" still inspires man groaning under tyranny and oppression all the world over.
