Science in medical treatment, agriculture, conquest of space. Science, not an unmixed blessing manufacture of atom bombs taken mankind to the brink of destruction. Modern age is the age of science. It has made man as omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient as God. In his daily life he enjoys the manifold gifts of science. The newspaper he reads over the cup of morning tea, the clothes he wears, the radio or television which entertains him, the fan that cools him, the electric oven that cooks his food quickly and the train or bus that takes him to his office or school are all the gifts of science.
Science has done wonders in the field of medical treatment. It has enabled man to cure diseases formerly considered fatal. It has made surgical operation a painless job.It has revolutionized the whole system of agriculture. The adoption of scientific methods of cultivation has doubled the rate of production per acre and has brought about the green revolution in India and elsewhere. Science has made man conquer space. It has taken him to the moon and has enabled him to establish space stations (houses) where he lives as on earth.
Science is not, however, an unmixed blessing. It has made war terrible. It has helped man to manufacture deadly atom and hydrogen bombs, a dozen of which are enough to wipe the whole human race out of existence. It has seated, as it were, the whole world on the creater of volcano which may erupt at any moment and reduce it to ashes.
